WalkWell4Life
Caminos of Southern Africa

Walk a camino at home.

34 camino routes in South Africa and Namibia: host-to-host walks of several days, many with a pilgrim passport stamped along the way. Every route here was checked on its organiser’s own website on 9 October 2026.

What is a camino?

A walk of several days, from host to host.

The idea comes from the Camino de Santiago in Spain. Southern Africa now has its own: farm roads, mountain passes, mission villages, the Karoo and the coast, walked a day at a time, with a bed, a meal and often your luggage waiting at the end of each day. Some are spiritual pilgrimages; most are simply walks for anyone who wants to slow down.

Getting ready

Most caminos ask for days of 15 to 25 km, several in a row. WalkWell Further holds the multi-day hike training plan and strong-feet work; the Advisor answers blister, food and pacing questions; and The Wisdom of the Walk has a whole topic on pilgrimage.
